Arab Bank Takes Green Initiatives to a New Level

15 May, 2011

As part of Arab Bank’s corporate social responsibility and commitment to the environment and sustainability, the Bank has decided to start implementing several green initiatives aiming to minimize energy consumption thereby reducing the Bank’s carbon footprint and cutting utilities expenses during these challenging times of increased pressure on resources. The initiatives include all Arab Bank branches in Jordan, the head office building in Shmeisani and the central operations unit on Airport Road and will cover a range of the Bank’s operations.

This initiative takes into account the rationalizing of light and power usage throughout the Bank’s premises through turning off non-essential lighting on signage, office, advertising locations and other non-critical areas. The Bank, however, will maintain lighting for 24 hour ATM lobbies and surrounding areas. During working hours the Bank has implemented more efficient air conditioning and power usage systems and policies. It is also noteworthy that the Bank has recently implemented an E-statement service, where customers can opt for paperless account statements free of charge.

Commenting on this initiative, Mr. Nemeh Sabbagh, Chief Executive Officer of Arab Bank said, “We continuously look at taking the right steps towards making Arab Bank a cleaner and greener bank; these initiatives will not only reduce our utility bills, but will go a long way in conserving precious resources at a time when supply is becoming strained.”

Ms. Dina Shoman, Executive Vice President of Branding at the Bank added, “We hope to lead by example and show that if everyone takes measures when it comes to their consumption habits, regardless the extent of their contribution, collectively we can make a big difference for the environment and ultimately the community. Such efforts are important for the path towards environmental sustainability.”
